The institute was established as a National Goat Research Centre in July, 1976 at Makhdoom village near Farah town of Mathura district in Uttar Pradesh (India). It got the status of a full-fledged Institute on 12th July, 1979, and was named as the Central Institute for Research on Goats with the mandate to conduct both applied and fundamental research on all aspects of goat production and product utilization.

DESCRIPTION OF THE SIGNATURE

• The signature of ICAR - Central Institute for Research on Goats (ICAR-CIRG), Makhdoom, Farah, Mathura UP depicts CIRG in goat model.
• The dot of letter I in CIRG proportionately symbolizes goat products as Red colour for Meat, Brown colour for Hide, Cream colour for fiber and white for milk.
• The logo of ICAR-CIRG is placed in the centre of letter R of signature.
• The water mark in the signature symbolically represents the Laboratory-Administrative Building of the ICAR-CIRG.
• The tagline Goat: The Future Animal projects goat as better climate adaptability, draught tolerance, better survivability and high market demand.

The Signature of ICAR - Central Institute for Research on Goats (ICAR-CIRG), Makhdoom, Farah, Mathura was designed under the supervision of Dr. Manish K Chatli, Director, by the team of scientists comprising of Dr. Ashok Kumar, Dr. R.V.S. Pawaiya, Dr. A. K. Dixit, Dr. K. Gururaj and Dr. Y. K. Soni. The Signature was released by Dr. B N Tripathi, DDG (AS) ICAR New Delhi on 04-05-2023 in presence of Director, ICAR-CIRG, Dr. M. K. Chatli.
